Urban Decay has just recently relaunched their single shadow line and called it something like 24/7 Vegan Eyeshadow. They’ve changed a lot of the shades and the packaging is completely different. Being a blog that focuses on eyeshadow, I wanted to test and swatch some of these for my readers.
First, I think it’s necessary to state that you just don’t need to pay $20+ for a single shadow in a standard matte, satin/shimmer, or metallic formula. There are just too many other brands out there making those for a fraction of the price. I hope I can show you similar shades to save you money.
It’s possible that the more interesting finishes justify their price tag. I don’t have a dupe for Lucid in my collection, though there are certainly similar duochromes on the market, they aren’t as ubiquitous as regular mattes and shimmers. And special sparkly shades do tend to cost more when they have a beautiful refined sparkle that isn’t chunky glitter. So I’m more inclined to say that the Moondust shadows (Cosmic and Space Cowboy) in this post are worth the money if sparkles are your thing.
Second, these to not come out of the clear plastic packaging – so they are not designed to store in your own magnetic palette. I really dislike that. I don’t know why Urban Decay would do that to us. I think people would buy more if they could collect them and store them in a palette together.
Swatch Photos
First I’ll show you just the shades I bought in a few different lighting types. Then we’ll see what I have in my collection that is similar in color (potential dupes). Virgin is very similar to my skin color so it’s going to be difficult to see in some lightings.
Dupes and Similar Shades
Lucid
I don’t have anything that is a match for Lucid. But here are some comparisons to show you what it’s NOT like in case you have these and were wondering. Lucid has more of a blue tone than it seems at first. At first it looks pretty green.
Cosmic (Moondust)
Cosmic has a whiter base than the other similar shades I have. Silver Moon by Bobbi Brown is the closest, but it’s sadly discontinued and was more expensive anyway (but I think the sparkle is more beautiful).
Space Cowboy (Moondust)
I think Cement is the closest, but really none are true dupes. The Bobbi Brown Sparkle shadows are a bit more refined and dimensional, but they’re also more expensive at $36.
Virgin
The shade Virgin is appearing pretty lackluster in these swatches. It does have some sheen, it’s not a matte, but it’s not any shinier than satin finish. I prefer the amount of sheen in the Bobbi Brown Beige shadow, and I would still consider that one a satin finish. Nectar by Coastal Scents is even shinier, closer to metallic. Nude by Coastal Scents has a very similar satin finish, but you can see that the tone is slightly different.
Tease
I remember the shade Tease was in the Naked 2 palette a while back. I remember loving that shade. Speedway ($5) by Sydney Grace is a dupe, so I’d recommend picking up that shade for a custom palette. Check out my post on the Wild West palette to see all the swatches from that palette.
